I wonder how many times people told Greta Thunberg that she’d have more opportunities in life if she improved her social skills, or tamed her flyaway hair, or otherwise put more effort into fitting in and doing what was expected of her.

Anyway, she didn’t – and this week, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

It is a uniquely autistic gift to ignore what matters to others, and focus on what matters to you.

What mattered to a 16-year-old autistic girl now matters to thousands across the world. What matters to you may change the world too.

P.S. I write from my personal experience as an autistic. What I share is not a substitute for advice from an autistic medical professional. Also, some of my opinions have changed since I first wrote them.
