I’m smart. I can learn anything.

But if the information is new to me, I can’t absorb it quickly. I need time to mull – to turn it round and round in my mind, letting it sink in deeply.

As new knowledge permeates my thoughts over days and weeks, I can begin to make connections that others miss, and apply what I’ve learned in insightful ways.

Only if I’m free, though. Free from pressure, free from distraction. Free to process, free to mull.

P.S. I write from my personal experience as an autistic. What I share is not a substitute for advice from an autistic medical professional. Also, some of my opinions have changed since I first wrote them.
