My absolute favorite foods are hors d’oeuvres, charcuterie boards, and leftovers.

Those are the categories of food that give me the most freedom to choose which sensation I want on my tongue at any particular moment.

There isn’t a full plate to finish. There are many possibilities to start. And if I change my mind halfway through, there’s very little waste.

My entire diet would consist of such foods if it weren’t for the time, effort, and expense that it takes to prepare them. Well, leftovers are a small expense, but cooking enough food to produce them takes time and effort, especially since cooking is a challenge for me to do at all – I’m more of an assembler.

Anyway, I’ve got a delicious little pizza in my toaster oven, and it just might be the sensation I’m craving most right now. Maybe tomorrow I’ll attempt something more complicated.

P.S. I write from my personal experience as an autistic. What I share is not a substitute for advice from an autistic medical professional. Also, some of my opinions have changed since I first wrote them.
